Marine NMEA Reactor

Marine safety, equipment monitoring and control, based on sensor and navigational data.

The Marine NMEA Reactor is a highly advanced industrial controller specially designed for marine applications. It's integrated power supply is galvanized for the purpose of marine application and will not cause corrosion of the ship's hull.

The Marine NMEA Reactor will accept and parse NMEA streams from navigational equipment such as GPS and sonar. The device reads and parses the NMEA streams and can act upon any variables contained in the stream. The String Reactor's reactions to data are easily programmable to control other equipment aboard via it's up-to six built-in solenoids, or to construct and send customly made NMEA streams of it's own. The generated NMEA stream can contain state data from the sensor input ports.

The Marine NMEA Reactor can be tasked to sense the state of equipment and instruments aboard vessels, and generate custom or standard NMEA strings containing information relative to the the sensed states. This can be achieved on both scheduled or event-driven basis.

The Marine NMEA Reactor can also interpret, accumulate information from the NMEA stream and re-generate custom NMEA strings from the accumulated infromation.

Typical real-life applications for the Marine NMEA Reactor at present are for example :

  • Monitoring the ship's speed information and prohibiting engagement of :
    • Bow-propeller when wessel speeds approach propeller load-loss levels
    • Extra maneouverability rudder hydrolic-pumps which would damage rudder mechanims if left engaged over certain speeds
  • Monitoring depth and speed and automatically pulling drop-keel at set limits to avoid capsizing or damaging impact with sea-bed
  • Interpreting data from sea-bed gravel sensors and correlating the information with positional data from GPS, forming and sending out a custom NMEA string.

Hardware :

  • Robust and solid design
  • Years of maintainance-free operation
  • Tried and tested in very unforgiving real-time environments
  • Galvanized power supply for marine specific applications
  • Up to six built-in solenoids for control of DC or AC current
  • Eight uncommitted additional I/O ports, each configurable as digital outputs or digital/analog inputs
  • Optionally extensible to up to 64 solenoids and/or intelligent sensors I/O ports

Software :

  • Fully event driven operating system
  • Event and task sheduler
  • Programmable event reaction to values in any NMEA string from navigational equipment
  • Programmable event reaction to changes in sensory data, binary and/or analog
  • Programmable evaluation of NMEA string field values
  • Programmable interpretation, evaluation and generation of NMEA strings
  • Programmable generation and transmission of custom NMEA strings based on data from sensors
